Abstract

Most scholars prefer to translate the expression me mete?rízomai
of Lk 12:29 as “do not be in the air”, with a psychological sense. However they tend to emphasize that the common figurative sense in Judeo-Hellenistic and Greco-Roman literature is not this, but the moral-metaphorical “do not be puffed up [with pride]”. This contribution, taking advantage of the search and research opportunities offered by new technologies, aims to demonstrate that the psychological sense was much better known and used in the Judeo-Hellenistic and Greco-Roman world than was evident until now. We are not the first to affirm this possibility, but we bring new texts
that shed light on the subject.
