Abstract

This article examines the centrality of the discovery of the theological meaning of Jesus’ cross for Paul of Tarsus. Focus is firstly placed on the weight that the event of the death on the cross had for the followers of Jesus in Judea and the diaspora, pointing out their similarities and differences. Secondly, its importance is traced in Paul’s letters and theological thought. And thirdly, an assessment is made of the possible consequences in the configuration of his life and mission in the Roman empire.
