Abstract

Archaeological excavations conducted in the Galilee, and the study of the texts and traditions of the Jesus movement have led in recent years to a better knowledge of the region in the first century. This essay presents some of the recent archaeological findings in the ancient city of Magdala, together with some data on the social situation reflected in Document Q. A comparison between the two allows us to contemplate life in the region from a new perspective.
