The book of Numbers may have seemed for many years a neglected book in Pentateuchal studies and certainly occupied a marginal place in the intense and controversial research on its origins. However, in the first decades of the 21st century it has become a key piece in academic discussions and has moved from the periphery to the center. The turning point can be placed at the Colloquium Biblicum Lovaniense of 2006, whose lectures were published by T. Römer (ed.), The Books of Leviticus and Numbers (BEThL 215) Leuven: Peeters, 2008).
