Abstract

Evoking the celebration of Sukkot, the occasion in which Judaism annually
renewed its Covenant with God; the Gospel’s writer develops two parables
about the universal destiny of goods, criticizes the meritocracy of the Pharisees and
condemns the contempt for the poor that it entails. In this context, several figures
as a supposedly unjust administrator, a “lord” who praises his behavior, some
money-loving
Pharisees, an unscrupulous rich man and a marginal poor, offer different
views about divine justice, the final judgment and the eschatological dimension
of the blessings and curses of the Covenant.
