Abstract

The study of Jesus’ speech on the Olivet Mountain shows how one of the
evangelist’s main concerns is not so much to explain what is going to happen but
to warn against erroneous (and interested) interpretations by third parties who seek to
manipulate the hope of believers. These warnings were especially valid in the
post-Jewish War, but also in the confusion of the current COVID period. Resituating the gaze of his listeners, Mark proposes not to be looking for great signs, but to learn to read reality – as if it were a parable – in order to discern what are the
signs of a Kingdom that is coming.
