Abstract

THOMAS L. BRODIE, The Birthing of the New Testament. The Intertextual Development of the New Testament Writings, Sheffield Phoenix Press - Sheffield - 2004, xxxi + 653 pp.

This extensive book is the result of a series of studies by A., director of the Dominican Biblical Institute in Limerick, Ireland, on the literary relationship between the NT and the OT, several of which had been published previously. Specifically, he describes the purpose of his work (xx) as outlining the literary development of several of the writings of the NT and, in doing so, solving the synoptic problem (!).

Readers will find in this book a good synthesis of many of the ideas circulating on these topics, as well as novel contributions that will stimulate further study.
